I walked into a coffee shop last Sunday morning in Alexandria, Virginia. It was about 10:30. There was a Washington Post for common reading on the table. I looked at the front page and realized that I had already read the articles on line. How I get the news has dramatically changed over the years.
The critics and viewers seem to agree that “The Bear”, the FX/Hulu series, is brilliant.  The show is set in a frenetic big sandwich shop in Chicago that serves Italian-beef sandwiches.  The lead, Jeremy Allen White from Showtimes “Shameless”, plays an award winning high-end chef in NYC who returns home to save his dead brother’s business.
Anyone remember saying these words out loud when your kids were young only to be met with growling, pleading for five more minutes or some creative bargaining?  Feels like yesterday to me.   They say that youth is wasted on the young.
I need recommendations for some good books for vacation reading. I, generally, like to read science fiction or easy read novels.   My husband and I are, hopefully, flying to South Africa at the beginning of September. I say “hopefully” because we have had to postpone this trip twice, all due to the COVID lockdown. So far, we are closer to actually going than we ever were before.
The teams I root for have not enjoyed regular and sustained success over the season they play.  The Rangers did surprise in hockey and make a run of sorts but when it comes to football, hoops and baseball not much in the way of success, and you find yourself more rooting for individual players to develop.  So when over the last two weeks through last night I watched my baseball team succeed against Friday's blogger's team and take 3 of four going into this afternoon game against the 2021 World Series champs, I feel something special.
I'm in Canada this week staying at a friends house on Lake Erie next to the Buffalo Canoe Club (image is the boathouse) that is populated with Buffalonians who founded it in 1886. It's a very different vibe up here. Laid back, no one's in a rush, with funny accents...eh?
We have a good friend, Guy deBoer, who is a genuine throwback to the bygone Explorers.  We admire our Guy for his quest to be the first American to win the Golden Globe, around the World, solo sailor, sail boat, Race.
Last week Gotham had a great night at Citi Field as the Mets and Yankees squared off for the first of two games in their subway series. As I sat among my friends from Gotham, the fan allegiances were apparent as people decked out in respective jerseys and hats.
