Answering Rona

I sat down to try to write another blog but just could not.

Friday night Bill was out with friends and my son and I had a “mother-son” dinner. [Bacon wrapped steak and a boulder blossom at Boulder Creek, his current favorite meal].

We were together as the events in Paris were being reported. We watched together and talked. He was intently interested but commented that he was too young to remember 9/11 – he was barely 1 ½ at the time – and so he really only knows the stories.

Yesterday Rona asked about our feelings in light of the atrocities in Paris. My feelings are complicated. Friday night brought me right back to 9/11. Unlike my son, those memories are still so present and painful.

Today I am sad, angry, proud and worried. I could describe a few more emotions too.

I think it will mobilize a coordinated response.

Further to Fred's comment, I heard on the news this morning that it's anticipated by several pundits that the US and Russia, separately, are likely to support France militarily and otherwise, and in so doing, perhaps may collaborate in those efforts, which (it was posed) might help ease tensions between the two superpowers. That'd be ironic, at least.

Rona, has your son seen the ESPN video about the Man in the Red Bandanna?

I think it will take time to sort it all out. I'm leary of all those who have solutions so quickly.

Emily is a post 9/11 baby and watching her reaction to all of this has been mind numbing. She has very strong opinions---all heartfelt. We had planned a trip to Paris for her sweet 16 instead of a party--and she insists that should not change.
Like me she also worried when Stevie went to the Giants game on Sunday---our lives then and now are forever altered.

Marisa was accepted for birthright early next year and her mom worries.
