Commercials

Call me old fashioned, but I much prefer my Television viewing with commercial interruptions. Not because I want to be pitched, but because I want (need) to rush into the bathroom and brush my teeth and do other things.

On the other hand, viewing cable shows clear through upsets my ingrained habits, if not my circadian rhythm, and everything else.

How could I be brought up one way and then they change the game?

P.S. Does anyone really watch commercials?

Not me. I like to DVR shows, fast forward thru commercials and can pause it if I need to do something else. I appreciate a really clever commercial but they are few and far between.

I've gotten used to commercial-free cable but when I'm watching network tv, sports, etc. I appreciate a commercial break ( although it is rarely to watch the commercials).

I too was brought up with commercials and did not until about three years ago have a DVR which easily allows skipping them. I do now skip them too which is helping me not snack as much while watching my favorite shows. I really only finding myself pausing fr bathroom breaks or a phone call.

I so rarely watch regular television. When I do I have a magazine beside me or play a quick game of rummycube during the commercials.

Commercials are not healthy Fred. Your DVR allows you a new found freedom. I rarely watch real time . A one hour network show can be had in 40 minutes ! So if I want to binge on say 4 saved one hour shows to catch up to a series on MY TIME I can do it in 2:20. The jury is out on live sports. I can fast forward thru a Yankee game in 20 minutes just pausing when the graphic shows a new man on base or a score change ! TV on my terms ! Happy Wife happy life! Yes ? When Diane goes to bed I can watch all the violence with Luke ! Hoo Yah Bro ! By the way.... The network nightly news can be had in 17 minutes !

I am not a big TV watcher but have watched it with and without commercials. My kids have the "skip ahead" thing going. I like commercials for the same reason I used to like reading the classified section of the newspaper - it's a glimpse of what people are interested in. Unfortunately it looks as though all they are interested in are medications and insurance products. No wonder you use the time to go to the bathroom; I go during the regular programming.

The one thing I like about Netflix, Youtube, etc. is....
...the pause button

One of (so many) great things in the modern world is the ability to skip commercials on television. My 15-year-old records my favorite shows (and I don't even have to remind her!) and I watch them commercial-free at my leisure.

I'll call that "Progress."
