Showtime Shows
We are addicted to two Showtime shows. They are Homeland and The Affair. Both of which had their season finales just before Christmas.
Homeland is our number one following its best season yet. The two episodes prior to the finale were explosive and captivating while the finale was a strong bridge to next season with Quinn as the endangered love interest for Carrie and Saul probably returning as the CIA Director.
The Affair is new and has a novel 2 points of view approach. I'm betting that Noah is not the killer. The season finale was a fine wrap up and next season teaser.
HBO is having its clock cleaned.

Absolutely love Homeland, Game of Thrones and Ray Donovan.
I know I should like The Newsroom, but I stopped after the first season, just seems contrived for some reason. It tries to take a neutral stance, but seems to come from such a place of arrogance...of being above the fray. I try to consider myself as an independent thinker who tends conservative. I think that the easiest thing to do is to just declare yourself an independent, scoff at everyone and consider yourselves "above the fray," while just consistently hammering everyone from both sides (paging Jon Stewart). I prefer the underlying sentiment of The West Wing. While still coming at issues from a more liberal standpoint, I felt that the show exhibited a true caring for intellectual honesty and an appreciation for the weight carried by those who are willing to bear the burden of getting things done rather than standing up in the ivory tower throwing snowballs. I am a conservative, but I would have voted for Jed Bartlett to be my President (unlike John Travolta, lol).
Jane,
So glad you brought up John Oliver. I think his is the funniest and most underrated show on TV. Jon Stewart, his mentor, probably wishes now that he had his show on less censored pay cable. While he also comes from a slightly liberal viewpoint, it tends to not be mean or arrogant and just flat out hysterical. I haven't laughed as hard as I have at his show in a long, long time. If you haven't seen it and you like political, intelligent, raunchy and completely offbeat humor, please try it. Just envision a cross between Jon Stewart and Monty Python (and not just because of the accent).

I thought I was married to an incredibly complicated woman. Carrie Mathison on Homeland is a study of so many psychoses it's hard to find the root cause. Played by Clare Danes (Temple Granden ) who is in one word PHENOMINAL !! Saul Berenson ( Mandy Patinkin)and Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend)....So poignant and dangerously current.
The FX Network (FOX offshoot) Has provided us with Sons of Anarchy, Justified and The Americans. All MUSTS for TV people. Excellent story lines and extremely well written.
Cinemax has Banshee and Strike Back. It will knock your socks off. Season 3 premiere of Banshee tonight !
Network TV we watch Black List, Blue Bloods , Person of Interest and Chicago PD.
My DVR is loaded with 8-10 episodes of many. When my son comes home we BINGE. On shows and food !!! No time to watch all this stuff weekly or daily !!
