We spent this past weekend in Chicago.  The Schess clan converged on the city and spent the weekend celebrating all sorts of wonderful things in our world. But, I digress.

I have never spent any time in Chicago, and I am now a fan.  We were in a part of town called South Loop, walking distance to the lake, multiple museums, restaurants, bars and so much more.

One afternoon we walked through Grant Park – right adjacent to an art installation of literally Giant Legs – very cool all the way to Lakefront Trail where we continued walking alongside Lake Michigan.  I was completely taken with the blue color of the water.  Being a New Yorker, that difference in color was striking.

One afternoon we explored the Art Institute of Chicago.  Admittedly, art museums don’t typically call me, but this museum was different in its variety which kept me interested the entire afternoon.  We traveled from room to room, ranging from Andy Warhol to Grant Wood’s famous “American Gothic.”  You know – the painting of a farmer and a woman in front of a Gothic style home, where he distinctly displays a large pitchfork.  I always thought that painting was a depiction of a man and his wife.  I am told that the woman is actually his daughter.

I wish we had more time to explore and I recommend a visit.

Have you been to Chicago?

I haven't been to Chicago for years, but it is a great city with much to do and explore. Its also a lot larger than most think.

I loved Chicago! Although we were there in the Spring. I'm not sure that I would love it as much in the winter. The food, especially the pizza, was so good. Even though I'm not a steak eater, I loved Gibsons. I still order their seasoned salt online to put on roasted veggies. Yum!!

Nothing like Wrigley, especially front row by visitors dugout. My friend’s seats…..

Our youngest son lives and works there. He is in Lincoln Part which is a great area. He also owns a condo with a view of the lake, a pool on the roof and two underground parking spots for a fraction of what it would cost in NYC.
Although we miss him, it was the right move for him. Next time you are in town, visit the Field Museum and the aquarium. The architectural boat tour is also great in the warmer weather.

Love "The Windy City". So glad you got to go and sample some of its finest wonders.

Too funny, I should have asked you first! And as to the weather, it was 78 degrees in Chicago on Saturday. Go figure . . .

Very fun! We didn't get there but would have been a good afternoon activity.

Should have, but did not. My crew includes two who eat gluten free which makes the deep dish a challenge.
