When I was growing up the Winters were cold, sometimes really cold. The summers were hot, sometimes really hot. There wasnt much of a prediction, the snow just showed up without much warning. Sometime a little, sometimes alot. People just accepted it, after all its winter. The Meteorology profession didnt get much respect, it became widely believed that these people made a lot of money to be on TV doing the Weather and were mostly wrong. Fast forward to today, the profession hasnt changed much, but there is a lot of new terminology. Now in the winter, when it gets cold you hear the weather media flooding the airwaves with a new term - Polar Vortex. The term has been around for decades but in the past 10 years it seems to have really been the HOT phrase for the winter. But the meterology profession still hasnt improved its reputation much. Still mostly wrong, with alot of new scientific sounding terms.

The weather will always be unpredictable. If its not one new term, its another.

Every day when I head out the door to run or go to the gym, G asks me what the weather is and I always tell her I don't know. Seriously, it's a game we play. I never check because I go no matter what.

Growing up in Ohio it was snow all winter long for 4 months straight. That was a guarantee. The rest of the year always had a chance of sun or thunderstorms with tornados. Fortunately tornadoes were never guaranteed.

With advances in technology, it's surprising that they are not more accurate. Global warming is real. Have seen it first hand!

TV weather is all about the hype. Every rain event is now a major northeaster and every two inch snow forecast becomes a major accuweather event hyped up for a week in advance. We used to just have good old rain and snow.

WARNING-DISSENTING OPINION: Weather forecasting seems Very accurate to me. I look at many factors and information and it is pretty spot on, most of the time.

PS, I see Mr G half the time I meet my Dad for breakfast. They have lived near each other for decades. He still prognosticated about our cold spell recently. And he reads 4 newspapers...
