Where's the Salt?

What has happened to salt?

I know it’s not a healthy preference but I like salt in my food. My husband will laugh at me because he has caught me salting my food before I even tasted it.

I have noticed, however, that most restaurants no longer have salt on the table. You have to ask for it. And, it’s generally taken almost as a criticism of the chef that you need more salt than provided by the chef.

Have you noticed this trend? Do you miss salt?

I have noticed mostly at higher end restaurants. I am one to rarely add salt and you really should taste before you salt anything. I am very sensitive to salt having to deal with high blood pressure, but i do like to salt eggs, potatoes and beef..So I very rarely look for it. .

Have not noticed. Will be on alert...

Love salt. Trying to cut back. I once had a client tell me that he watched if people salted their food before tasting it at business lunches, and lunch interviews!

My dad used to salt soup before tasting. Dumb.

I don’t salt, ever.

As for missing shakers; could be they got tired of people stealing them.

Interesting. Hadn't noticed, but will now. Aside from french fries, there isn't much I add salt to. I'm much more likely to add pepper.
