A Lost Art

Remember the days when handwritten notes were just what you did? You didn’t really think about it. When there was a personal message to convey, it was sent through pen and paper.

Think about how often you receive a handwritten note today. Can you count on one hand the number you have received in the last year? I can.

I miss the personal touch of a handwritten note. An email just can’t take its place.

Janet Adler's husband received over 40 from Gothamites.

I still hand write my thank you notes (my Mother always called them "bread and butter" notes. I guess that makes me old school.

So here is a question. My son suffers from Disgraphia. It is actually painful for him to write so is it completely unpalatable to type a thank you?

It's funny that this blog came up today because i was in the process of handwriting a thank you note for a referral from a Gotham member. Most often I use email but recently I had my office order cards so the thank you's can be hand written. I think it's something special to get a hand written note and says a lot about someone willing to take the time to hand write a thank you and mail it.

Josh- A typed thank you note, delivered by snail mail, still maintains personality and a special touch.

If a person exerts the effort to take to pen and paper, rather than a few flicks of the fingers, I accept the hand written note a real and personal expression rather than a perfunctory one more thing to do. Five stars for hand written notes!

Circumstances dictate and this circumstance it is the thought that counts. A typed thank you note sounds very nice.

I agree Leslie. I think I need to order some for the office!

I think it really depends. Sometimes a phone call can work just as well. If I have a preference it would be to thank someone in person. I have worked in places where that personal note might not get seen or seen so readily. It's the thought that counts of course.

It is not a lost are for me! I always send handwritten notes for many reasons in my real estate business: Thank you for the referral, thank you for the opportunity of coming to your home for a Complete Market Analysis, etc....
