A gift
Having nothing of any importance planned last night I offered babysitting services to my daughter and son in law in Brooklyn. They were happy to have an adult night to themselves. I was even happier to have a night with the little one year old.
I had a lot of time with her this week. Last weekend was her one year birthday party. Tuesday night they came to my step fathers 83rd birthday dinner. And Thursday I went over for my weekly visit.
My mother used to say that she loved her grandchildren even more than her own children. I get it. As they say, grandchildren are God's gift for getting old.

My parents and Shelly's often provided such services when needed here. In fact my mom and hers used to devote a day each so Shelly could work a couple of days a week.
Now just look forward to the day that grandchild comes over to teach you how to use some newfangled technology (Have not yet experienced but am aware of one who has as I am the father of that grandchild who flew down to set up his grandparents with an iPhone -- and of course a back story exists....).
