It's Almost Time To Go

Categories

On Wednesday, my husband and I will be taking our two youngest children to college to begin their freshman year. Ryan will be going to SUNY Binghamton and Sydney will be going to SUNY Buffalo. Ryan aspires to be a lawyer and Sydney will be entering a five year program from which she will graduate with a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.

We have been through freshman year twice before with our two older children. Given that we’ve already had the experience of bringing our children to college, I thought this time would be easier. But, I am beginning to realize, that it will not be. I already feel that hole in my heart. And while I promised them both that I would not cry, I know that I will be crying as we say our good-byes. I also know that I’ll be struggling to find the right words to say to them as we leave each of them to start this next phase of their lives. I’m just not sure what the right words are yet.

It was probably easier because you still had the younger ones to focus on. I dread the day.

You do know what words to say. You've been saying them for the past eighteen years. They are closer to Albany them Albania!-:)

You don't have to say anything. They already know. Give it two weeks when you realize how freeing it will be to have time you never had before. But it will feel a bit quiet until they come home for Thanksgiving.

Enjoy the empty next. I am sure you'll be there if either Sydney or Ryan needs you.

You'll have to tell me what those words are next year when I go through this for the first time. Good luck!

We're converting your bedrooms into closets but we'll put you up at the RVC Holiday Inn when you come to visit.

No sex, no drugs, no wine, no (wo)men, no fun, no sin. OK, maybe a little fun but none of the rest. Mr. Vapors
