Piano Lessons

Nancy and I had an interesting conversation last week. She told me that she and her husband had decided to take piano lessons. When I asked “Why?” her response was, “Why not?”

Nancy then followed her response up with, “It was always something we wanted to do so we decided to just do it.” I thought about this for a few moments and confided in Nancy that I had always wanted to learn Spanish. I had taken French in school and realized, in later years, Spanish would have been much more useful. I have also, every so often, looked at Adult Education classes and considered signing up for Introductory Spanish. But I have not yet done so.

Nancy’s and Bill’s example has, however, started me thinking about Spanish again. Have you ever taken, or thought to take, a class just for the sake of learning something new?

I recall taking a car repair course several decades back. I learned what I know of website coding from my son. My son also recommends duolingo to learn a language. In our faith there exists a tradition that we can glean new things, new truth by going back a reading the same passage we read in each of previous years. Think about that when you reread a book or article you really enjoy.

All the time! My next conquest is a tie between business valuation and American Literature. I can't decide which one to take first. So far, the Lit class is winning.

Joanne and I went to Adult Ed Spanish, but the teacher concentrated on the most knowing and that was our last class. May Malo!

For over a decade, I've periodically attended courses given by One Day University (see: https://www.onedayu.com/ ), which allows me to continue my education beyond just CLE (continuing legal education) and ACE (arbitrator continuing education). ODU is worth checking out.

I have been thinking about going to educational sessions at the Apple store for some time. It might be fun to know more about the products I use.

I think Bill and I are going to have to give a concert after our course is over :)

Wow!!! That's really interesting. I really want to hear more about that.

That's my fear. I tried once in college and the same thing happened. I was the only one in the class who had never taken Spanish.
