Goodbye Grandma

We said goodbye to Bill’s mom on Sunday. I’ve blogged about her in the past and many of you have heard me talk about my mother in law. She was a sharp, intelligent woman who loved good conversation not only about family but the important issues of the world. She was most knowledgeable both because she was an avid reader and because she lived through so many important times.

But the message that I want to send today is a reminder about family and friends. Life is busy and we all move (too) fast. But there are certain moments that just make you stop running – like the passing of someone close to you. When people reach out to you during those times it reminds you that you are not alone, that you are part of a big family that values you. It’s like a hug that wraps itself around your whole family.

That’s how my husband and I feel right now. Through fredslist and Facebook and other large communication tools we were able to reach a lot of people who are important to us – and they have reached back and continue to do so.

So, a heartfelt thank you to all of our Gotham family and friends for making my husband and me feel very warm.

As we tell our stories about Grandma, we know we are part of a community that cares to show us the support we need.

[And, the photo attached is her wedding photo from 1945 -- one of my all time favorites.  Sorry it's sideways.]

Up is down and down is up, but sideways is sideways. Nice tribute. See you later.

Not only does she live on in your family, but, through you and Bill she has become a part of our family and will be remembered.

She will always be with you both and will live on in your children. Sounds like she was a wonderful example and mentor who will never be forgotten.

After the pain and sadness depart (and thankfully, they do) we are left with the wonderful memories of someone who loved and was loved. She will always be with you.
My condolences and hugs to the family.

She sounds incredible. Thank you for sharing. Helps to remember in the moments we take things for granted. Love you all. We are thinking about you. Xoxo

My Condolences. It is tough when a generational person leaves us for good. Savor the memories and re-tell the stories for the next generations.
