Summer Commuting

Categories

I live on Long Island and commute to work in Manhattan by car.  I drive to the East River on the Long Island City side where I park and take the subway 2 stops into the city.

The distance is 19 miles and when I was young and training for the marathon, Ben Geizhals and I (see photo) would run the 19 miles into the city once a week.  It was quite a trip!

The fastest I ever commuted door to door was 42 minutes and that was achieved in late Summer when school was out and folks were winding down their vacations.  I did 52 minutes Wednesday.

The roads are open this week and maybe I can break the record!

Did well yesterday in and out driving Shelly to MOMA and then heading to lower midtown for CLC Leg. & Pol. Directors meet. I know when no traffic use to be 22 minutes from Bellerose to City Hall (or downtown BK).

I find it so much easier to commute by car in the summer. Probably because all the teachers are off of the roads. But Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching.

Derf! Always the competitor . On the road , on the ball field , in the pool against the clock , against yourself , in the courts .The inimitable drive and the push . The pedal to the metal and the rush . Competition within yourself . To be the best . At everything . The best husband , the best dad , the best grandpa and the best friend . Always punching the clock and checking in . With few exceptions they broke the mold . Before the cold weather sets in . Swim the East River portion . You don't need no public transportation . Let's go . Another challenge . The finish line is at least another 25 years away . DERFNIELK

As Rona pointed out, maybe one more week and it's back to traffic. The commutes have been great this last week.
