The Corner Bakery

There’s a “Corner Bakery” on the corner of North Capital and E Street in Washington, D.C. On most mornings, a homeless gentleman stands on the corner and wishes a “Good Morning” to passersby. I saw him last Saturday and Sunday.
As I left the bakery with my coffees on Sunday morning, I gave the gentleman a dollar as I wished him a good day. As I walked away, I heard a voice behind me.
“Can I buy you breakfast this morning?” the woman’s voice asked.
I heard the gentleman respond “Yes”. I could hear the gratitude in his voice. It was the perfect response to the nonjudgmental gesture of the woman.
It was humanity.

Thank you for sharing. When I visited my daughter in DC while she was in school I saw an overwhelming number of homeless people. I learned that buying a bagel for the person who stood outside of her building was something that my daughter often did.

My wife prefers to provide coffee and/ or a meal rather than cash that might go towards a beverage not purchased at that kind of shop.

I just came back from the Hamptons where I did a benefit for the second homeless.

I had just come from the super market where I bought clementines and I passed a homeless woman napping on a stoop with her cart of belongings near her. After I passed her, something was incomplete for me. I stopped, went back and put 5 oranges in her cart and then went on. I don't know if she will remember this, but I do. Do something kind and you will never forget it. It's a gift for yourself as will as the other. Ben, thank you for posting this.
