I live on Long Island and drive to work in Manhattan. Actually, I drive 19 miles from my home to the Queens side of the East River and take the subway two stops to my office in Manhattan.I take various driving routes without using Waze and bide my time by making Bluetooth telephone calls and listening to books on CDs.
Independence Day is one of those few holidays that will always be celebrated on the precise day of its origin —— July 4th. No changes to Monday for the convenience of a long weekend.
Most years, however, Independence Day provides a long holiday weekend — either three or four days — to begin Summer.
But, by my unscientific calculations, every six years or so (depending on leap years) Independence Day falls on a Wednesday as it did yesterday.
As I was riding through Liberty, NY today (Tuesday) I couldn’t help but realize how fortunate we are to live in the greatest country in the world. I am also infinitely fortunate to live in the greatest city in the world where on any day I can get on the subway and find myself in the heart of where our nation was born.

Today I ask for ideas. What would you like your bloggers to tlak about? Let's come up with a list.
I have often written about the effect baseless online reviews have had on me and my colleagues. This week it happened to friends of mine, in a particularly vicious way, and it made me extremely angry.
Looking forward to some fireworks on Wednesday? After all we celebrate our nation’s independence and for many fireworks displays remain an attraction. Already enjoyed two nice displays at baseball stadiums in San Diego and Flushing, in April and a few weekends back respectively. Last night’s display, our third this year was the 5th time we combined fireworks with a concert at Town of Hempstead Park. It was leisurely.
I loved hearing those bells when I was growing up in New Hyde Park. One thing I could never figure out...when I asked for any one of 20 different types of those ice cold sweet desserts, the Good Humor man would stick his hand in that small door in the back and whip one out. Without looking he knew exactly where every single type of ice cream bar and sandwich was.
