I had lunch this week with a long time friend who also happens to be a matrimonial attorney. At one point the conversation turned to business development and networking. He is a member of a certain networking group in which you attend weekly early meetings, keep track of member referrals etc. .
In the good weather I like to set up my office outside. I discussed its re-opening a few weeks ago but, until Friday, an important component remained missing. I needed to replace the fan. I ordered one and it was expected for this coming Thursday. Alas, it arrived and I set it up on Friday. It gets covered when not in use.
It's been over 2 years since my life was saved by Dr. Grieco at Glen Cove hospital and I've been given the green light to exercise again. However, I'm only allowed to walk and use very light weights.   In my life, exercising meant working out to total exhaustion whether it was pounding heavy weights or playing sports. Not anymore and it's been difficult for me to adapt because I used exercise as a way of clearing my mind.   Now I push myself to make it around an 18 hole golf course. And when I do, my body is sore for two days.
When I was young my first job out of law school was as an investigator for the National Labor Relations Board and one of my first cases involved the Long Island Press against which an Unfair Labor Practice Charge had been filed. My job was to interview the Long Island Press Editor David Starr, present him with the allegations, record his responses in and have him execute an affidavit.
Home delivery of newspapers is not a concept of the past in our home. We still get home delivery of three newspapers. I have often thought about this as unnecessary and recently spoke to my brother-in-law about it. He also gets three newspapers - a local paper, the Times and the WSJ. Perhaps it’s an effort to get balance, perhaps just holding on to tradition, or, perhaps, a lingering resistance (albeit, unsuccessful) to the onslaught of the alerts and notifications of cyber news.
“As you grow older, you’ll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don’t you forget it—whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, that white man is trash” ―
I know you all won’t read this until Memorial Day has passed, but I wanted to take this opportunity to say “thank you for your service” to all of those in our Gotham family, and beyond, who have served our country. It is an act that is way too often taken for granted but critical to each of us every single day.
Today, as we honor our fallen heroes, we also mark the first weekend of the summer. To me, the summer is all about bar-b-que. And when you think about bar-b-que, most people think about hamburgers and hot dogs.
