Part 5 - Reunited
Of course it mattered that Earl was alive and Johnny would figure out what happened when they were on the flight back to New York.
Eddie put the gun away. He heard the gunfire in the room, knew Johnny thought Earl was dead and that Eddie had some part in it, and didn't know what Johnny might do when he saw him. Eddie wasn't sure whether he would need to use the gun on Johnny but knew that he had better keep it on Johnny until Johnny saw Earl and Pauline. They were in this together but Johnny didn't know it yet. When he saw Earl and Pauline, he knew.
The sooner they got back to New York and sorted out who else wanted The Needle dead, the better. When they figured that out, they'd know who also wanted to take over. And they had to find out what happened to the others. Did they know that things didn't go down according to the plan at the El Morocco? The guys who showed up in Johnny's hotel room must have figured it out and they were in no mood to celebrate with Johnny. If they came after Johnny in Vegas, their cronies must have gone after the others in New York. Did the others have the same premonition that Johnny had? Were they as smart? Or were they already dead...the first victims of the new battle for New York?
They were on the first flight from Vegas to New York. As they boarded the plane, Johnny and Earl took two seats together with Eddie and Pauline right behind them.

Johnny, Einstein, Meadowlark (?), and Needles decided it's time to put their differences aside and talk it out....over a game of texas holdem, no limit. The stakes? Everyone has something to lose. If Johnny gets taken out first (and hopefully that happens), then he has to change his name to ANYTHING but Johnny. The other players haven't said or read the word Johnny so much in their lives, and would love nothing more than to never see or hear that name again! If Einstein loses he has to admit that it was by accident that he came up with e=mc2. Originally he wrote on the chalk board for his wife to grab him 2 McRibs from McDonalds (it was finally back!), and wrote: E=>2McRibs. He's still waiting for those damn McRibs....
It's towards the end of the game, and Johnny's the short stack. Johnny picks up AK suited, and Needles got two ladies. The flop comes out, QJ9. Needles thinks his hand is good, holding the trip Q's, but Johnny like his straight draw. The turn? A 10. Bam, there's the straight. Johnny's trying not to act too excited, but starts moving his chips in. The river...????? BAM! Another 9! Needles all of a sudden has a Full House and the that gave him the nuts! They both turn up their cards, and Johnny see's that he loses. So that's it for Johnny...his new name? He decided he's going to go with his great grandpa's name, but not without telling us why first...
It was about two years earlier, and Johnny's great grandpa was sadly soon to pass. He explained the good times, the bad times, the tough times, etc. Took him through all of the ups and downs of life. From coming to America, back in the day, putting cardboard in his shoes to cover the holes. When movies cost a nickel. There was a lot to learn. There was little to learn. There was some to learn. There was some to not learn. There was none to learn, not here at least.
So Johnny's taking his great grandpa's name, and his new name is.....!!!
