Singing And Dancing

That is how I spent Friday night – with friends after a good meal.

Last week, Laurel (Scarr-Konel for those you who might now know) invited us to a concert – Kool & The Gang, with opening acts by The Spinners and Average White Band.  We had no plans that night.  Who will agree with my that sometimes spontaneity is best?

I haven’t been to Westbury Music Fair in ages.  It is such a unique venue  -- not a bad seat in the house and the stage turns so you don’t have to.

I am pretty sure the average age of the audience was over 50 (way over).

Seriously, there were a few noticeable naps along the way.  But when we weren’t napping, the audience was on its feet singing along, dancing in place – sometimes not in place – and just stepping back a moment in time.

Average White Band was my least favorite. A super interesting band musically, but no real memories I could reach.   The Spinners were just plain fun and the main act, Kool & The Gang could have played for hours.  When they finished “Celebration” it felt as if they had just taken the stage.

But then, the show was over, and as if in unison, the crowd took in one big yawn. It was close to 11:30 after all.

I highly encourage the experience no matter what your age.

Bill and Michael did catch a few zzz's - I think we may have to stick to weekend concerts and not Fridays after work! But what a fun time :)

Live music is great and to hear Celebration by Kool and the Gang is the coolest!
