Yet Another Pandemic Shift

Has anyone else notice that stores are not stocked the way they used to be?

I have been trying to fill in with a few pieces of clothing for the upcoming season. This is a sort of ordinary and regular tradition.  Frankly, when we did school clothes shopping with the kids it was always an excuse for me to buy something new too. You know, hopping on the bandwagon.

I don’t buy school clothes for my grown children anymore, but the season of buying has stuck.

These days, I’ve noticed that store shelves are sparsely stocked – but the same store’s online experience is vastly differently.

I have never really been the most ardent fan of online shopping. I need to feel the clothing and try it on. How do you really pick a size from a screen? And of course, for years my unreturned returns would stack up in the corner of my dining room, in the end just costing money.

The pandemic changed me. I remember that first online shop for a stack of sweatpants and leggings as we were hunkering down for a few weeks of  comfortable working. Hah! That was a joke.

But shopping full wardrobe in front of a computer is not the same.

I miss the in store experience and I am hoping it returns soon.

The world as we knew it will never be the same.

Shipping costs, limited trucking and local stock as well as help, all contribute to low shelf stocking. My son needed new baseball pants for his uniform and cleats. We went to a local Dicks Sporting goods and they had nothing in his size. All had to be ordered at the store and it will be shipped in a few days. It is sad but the reality these days.

I certainly have. I went to REI in the Puck building a few months ago. Not only was there significant my less merchandise, it all appeared to be merchandise from an outlet store.

I have become much more of an online shopper. For example I needed some pants for work for the fall. I never would have bought pants online. But with free shipping and free returns I just ordered several pairs and will return whatever doesn't fit.

It's a complete mess. The online purchases have destroyed the shops on the street - and you are right - even the ones that have survived their inventory is lower. I can't buy clothes properly online and there is no question but that I can't buy shoes online. It's a real problem. My favorite shoe store now has all old lady shoes and boots that are flats. I don't know where I'm going to be able to buy shoes if their inventory doesn't improve
