MUSIC IN CENTRAL PARK: BRUCE OR BARRY?
I was introduced to huge free city concerts in July of 1969. The Rolling Stones performed before me and a half million fans at Hyde Park. I was hooked on the grand scale and energy of the colossal show.
Through the years I tried to be at Central Park for the spectacle shows. I saw Elton John, Diana Ross, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, The Black Keys, Foo Fighters, and The NY Philharmonic, etc. Sharing the NYC skyline views and the energy of the crowd was always a cause for celebration.
When I heard the announcement of a NYC Homecoming Concert, I knew I would be there. Scoring the tickets was a bit of a hassle, but on a 7 AM distribution day, I got lucky. All entering must be vaccinated. If you are not going the show, it will be on CNN starting at 5 PM this Saturday, August 21.
The lineup is ridiculous. Every genre and generation gets a nod.
It includes 20 acts:Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Patty Smith, Santana, Jennifer Hudson, Earth Wind and Fire, Journey, Andrea Bocelli, Elvis Costello, LL Cool J, Jon Batiste, Kane Brown and Barry Manilow.
Are you going? Will you watch? Who are you looking forward to hearing?
I am in the Bruce camp. But,I am looking forward to hearing just about everyone including Barry!!

Will be at Beach for Tunnel to Towers. John Fogerty takes precedence over the boss much as I love his stuff.
Besides the Schaeffer?Dr. Pepper shows @ the former Wollman Rink (pre-Trump running it, on the Great Lawn I saw the Airplane & Starship, Beach Boys, New Riders(2x). Interestingly, Richie performed at my last show at the Rink in July 1978 just before I started at Hofstra Law.

Corey had it right. Just talking about the Big Free Ones at the Lawns. I saw the New Riders, too. Schaeffer had everybody from Miles Davis to the Doors. And Ike and Tina. Tunnel concert is a good one. Love Fogerty, too.
