The Hand Shake

Categories
Lifestyle

I recall my last pre pandemic hand shake with my Mate Andrew Ambrose.  Handshake

Since then I have religiously refrained from doing something which comes so naturally and can mean so much.  I even wondered if the ritual would go out of style and be relegated to the rubbish heap of history.

Then we got vaccinated and the thought cropped up.  Would I shake hands and if so with whom?

Then Charcoal had a medical emergency and the Veterinarian was closed for the weekend and I texted the emergency number and Dr. Thomas Householder responded and soon we were with him in his closed office and he performed an extensive examination and gave Charcoal an injection, an IV and pills.

He transformed Joanne and me from very worried parents to very very grateful customers.
In the emotion of the moment I reached out, grasped his hand and expressed my gratitude as best I could!

Cheek kissing not so much!

On the one hand a momentous handshake and on the other hand an iPhone for a photo opp! Looks like the start of a trend ... photos of "first ___ since the pandemic!" I hope Charcoal is OK.

Glad that he saved Charcoal! I agree. I was asked to do an in=person presentation in May/June. My response was interesting. After a year of very successful virtual presentations I was a bit hesitant (even though I am fully vaccinated and it was on Long Island close to where I am). I finally said I would but it would be so strange not to shake hands with the participants. It was all about the hand shaking. Some don't think it will return- I hope it does.

Handshakes, hugs....I believe all will be back. We may wash our hands more, and use more sanitizer. And maybe not share drinks or bites of food as much! (Love and speedy recovery to charcoal.)
Daniel Schwartz

Glad Charcoal is doing well. I am very happy to give up the handshake. Always thought it was a way to transfer germs and other pathogens way before Covid. Who knows where that hand was before the shake? But I participate with the ritual as it was a business nesessity and habit. I will forever keep my sanitizer handy when this time in history passes. Call me a germaphobe if you want, I can live with it.

Remember to look them in the eye when you shake :)

I love a good handshake and/or hug.
Sending big love to Charc.

So glad that Charcoal is ok. I think you have a nice balance, Dan Schwartz: human contact and personal protection, too.

Glad Charcoal is alright. You can now expect the Zombie transformation to begin within 24 hours. Unless of course you lathered your hand in a surgical scrub immediately after touching the good doctor.

Emergencies make for quick changes in actions.
Glad all well with Charcoal and his happy parents!

Happy that Charcoal is ok!!! I am seeing my family in mid-May. At that time we will all be fully vaccinated. I recently spoke to my sister and we both said that we cannot wait to hug one another!!

With that being said, I do believe that handshakes will be a changed tradition in view of the pandemic. I believe it will change for things such as an elbow bump.

Hands? My heart was in my mouth until I read that Charcoal will be all right! I would have shaked the doctor's hand too, and am glad that you had the opportunity.

It is only fitting that the animal instinct in us to touch each other to verify authenticity still works with vets who save your "children."

Sure hope Charcoal will be ok! I had dinner with a friend this week, we're both fully vaxed, hugging was wonderful! I miss handshakes too and believe they will return; for me they're signs of who the person is when interviewing. I see it as an occupational necessity but wonder if most others will agree...
