Bicycle, bicycle, bicycle
I expected it to be a lengthy process to assemble yesterday but it was unwrapping process that I found excruciating. Shelly’s new bike – the first she owned since our marriage – arrived Friday eve. She ordered it as last week began after a discussion with our son’s fiancee` who got hers at the end of lat year. Assembly required absolutely no tools. While a QR code connected me to a lengthy on-line assembly guide, I actually figured it out without any reliance on that. Shelly plans to purchase her first-ever helmet tomorrow. Shelly’s new bike actually folds up for easy transport. She already shared intentions to be “delivered” by this commentator to a place to try out her new device. Any recommendations?
P.S. I find it so interesting commenting about a bike. Usually my discussion involves bikes v. Buses; I often chat about how the manner of the installation of certain bike lanes occurs in such a way to pre-empt the installation of bus lanes where smart thinking would have facilitated both. Queens Boulevard exemplifies a location where the installation of a bus lane would serve so many more riders per hour and per day; the numbers are not even close, but the bike lane there pretty much precludes the installation of a needed bus lane where it would prove most practicable.
P.P.S. And even more interesting talking bicycles after last week’s blog.

A few years ago I bought a carbon fiber/ aluminum Cannondale road bike to complement my heavier, hybrid Trek cycle. I continue to ride year round when possible. The best and safest (no cars) route remains the Jones Beach bike path. Last week it was extended from Tobay Beach all the way past Robert Moses Causeway to Captree Beach.
I rode 32 miles on this maiden voyage and can’t wait to rinse and repeat. The best times to go when traffic is lighter is early am or for what I call “the sunset cruise”. You can park for free after 5pm and enjoy some of the best sight lines on the Island of the great South Bay.
