A Virtual Snow Day

Categories

As I write this blog, it is Sunday and I am listening to the weather reports predicting a major snow storm. I sit here and wonder, now that most of our work is done virtually, what will a snow day look like in a virtual world?

Will students whom are learning online be given a snow day? How will school districts coordinate the effect of a snow day on those students learning in the classroom versus those who are learning online?

Will virtual meetings continue? How about virtual court conferences? For me, the effect of the expected storm, which is supposed to continue into Tuesday, will be interesting. For the past two weeks I have been engaged in a virtual trial. The Judge has been presiding over the trial from her home. The Plaintiff’s attorney has been trying the case from her home in Florida (she has been banned from telling us any longer about the weather in Florida

My granddaughter is annoyed because since she is on remote learning there are no snow days

We are hybrid at Mercy College. Teaching in person and online. Campus is closed today. All classes cancelled. A true snow day. :)

I was imagining myself bundled up trudging to midtown for a meeting. Or would everything be canceled? Instead it’s business as usual for CoronaTimes since everything is virtual. I am not likely to be running today - can’t do that on Zoom.

Don't even. . . The Plaintiff's attorney sent an email this morning to the Judge writing that she's unsure of the weather here this morning as she is in Florida. Ugh!!!!

But we can have meetings on Zoom and drink hot coffee. One advantage to virtual trials is being able to do that.

My son who is n the Lynbrook School district is on 50/50 remote and in class every other day. Due to the storm, they closed all school activity, so yes, a true snow day.
I on the other hand, already had one Teams meeting for 1.5 hours this morning and more are scheduled this afternoon. We are also being tasked to make calls and enter in our database. No snow day for me, unless you include the two passes I have down already clearing snow on my walkway and driveway...

I think all kids deserve a true snow day. I am working and have a 2:00 virtual court appearance. My husband had to close the office and he doesn't know what to do with himself.

Some of our students are in areas that suffer power outages which would impact WiFi and zoom access. So maybe that’s the thinking. Connecticut schools are cancelled today too.
