Zoom Holiday Party!

Categories
Holidays

Following up on Ben's blog of yesterday, we thoroughly enjoyed our annual Holiday Party Wednesday night and, as is tradition, the weather was daunting, ie, it snowed and snowed and snowed. So much so that it amounted to another silver lining in that the pandemic prevented a traditional in person festival and required that we party conveniently on Zoom.

Party highlights were Alison Crowther, mother of Welles Remy Crowther, who ascended to immortality on 9/11/2001 by saving 18 souls while wearing his distinctive red bandanna, presenting Gotham’s highest honor, the Red Bandanna Award, to Lourdes Villanueva Hartrick, in recognition of her many selfless deeds during the pandemic.

Lourdes is a member of the Queens group which Corey Bearak was instrumental in reviving and which has become a true Gotham Hot Spot.

Why a Hot Spot? Because in addition to Lourdes, Queens swept the Gotham Awards with Group Coordinator Dan Schwartz and member Brad Scherer entering the Gotham Hall of Fame (it’s on the website) as our 2020 Networkers of the Year.

Hats off to Fred Morante’s Queens group and honorees!

Additionally there was singing (Paula Oleska, David Padrusch and Nancy Schess), sing along (led by surprise guest Marc Eismann), drink making and bartending (Mitch Tobol), the awarding of 5 $4000 Gotham Foundation grants (thank you all who contributed and Lisa and Michael for administering it), historical video and far more which made for good cheer (and networking)!

I really really enjoyed myself and feel really really proud of our unique thing and Family!

Last, but far from least, thanks to Holiday Party Sponsors Raj Goel, Tom Gallin, Jason Greenberg and Ray Walcott and props to Events Chairman Norman Spizz for putting it all together and running it seamlessly!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS (as pictured)!

The pandemic affords us different experiences - and opportunities to experience in different ways.
Shelley Simpson

The best party ever - strange as it seems since we were on zoom - but it was for sure.
Daniel Schwartz

The pandemic does, as Fred says often, bring out silver linings. Had this been a live event, I am sure many more would have missed this, with the storm brewing outside. I am just so glad we were able to be there this year and as one of the honored winners, it was especially special. Hats off to all inovolved for bringing this together.

Beautiful night! Inspiring, filled with warmth! It felt so good to be together!!! Agree with Shelley. Paul and said afterwards that it was one of the loveliest Gotham holiday parties EVER! Congrats to the Awardees!
Ray Walcott

This was a wonderful event and time.  It was a wonderful way for everyone to connect and celebrate! Congrats to the Queens Group and special thanks to everyone that contributed to the event!
Norman Spizz

It was my pleasure to participate and coordinate this event. Many thanks to those who helped. Mitch, Ray,Jason. Our sponsors Raj, Jason Tom and Ray. Our entertainers Paula, David and Nancy. Most of all our great Gotham members who always are ready to step up to help each other especially in today’s times.
Sherry Rivera

It was a warm and inspiring Gotham experience. Thanks to all for making it possible and giving of themselves. So great that we have Zoom in our 2020 lives.
Dana Charlton

Only Gotham could do it and do it with such aplomb! Congratulations on your fine achievement and best wishes for safe and wonderful holidays!

A warm and spirited holiday party was curated by our Party Savant, Norm Spizz.
A balance of networking in the break out rooms to the emotional highlight of the Red Bandana Award presented to Lourdes Hartrick by red-bandana hero Welles Crowther's mother, Allison Crowther. Money to great charities and Best Networkers were rewarded.
A film presenting Gotham's History was a grand finale. Always touching to see photos of some past Gotham members who have left us. Sadly, all of us learned of this weeks passing of Gideon Schein, one of Gotham's finest.
Geraldine Newman

A demonstration of you don't need to be together in person to have a lot of heart!
Corey Bearak

As a former President and co-founder of the Queens Civic Congress and an active member of the Queens Chamber of Commerce, I just say go Queens!. GQ is one of the best things in Gotham and meets during non-pandemic times in the best diner in Queens (IMHO). Congrats to three well-deserving friends. Thank you to our generous sponsors including our Rookie of the Year (From Gotham Power Breakfast), Ray Walcott (who also placed us in the "rooms"), Jason Greenberg and Global Silver Tom Gallin and Global Gold Raj Goel. Good job by our entertainment chair and host, Norm Spizz and our Mixologist (who knew our webmaster is of so many talents), Mitch Tobol.
Ray Walcott

Thank you Corey, now I need to follow up the rookie of the year designation with a MVP sophomore year! LOVE the GQ for Gotham Queens!
