A Breath of Fresh Air – Literally

With a touch of cold still in the air, it isn’t quite spring yet. It’s close, but not exactly. But this past weekend, I decided I didn’t care. It was close enough.

We have been so stuck inside these last few weeks. I work from my dining room table, which is a growing monstrosity of technology, files, phones – wait, that’s what my NYC office looks like too. Here, however, I look out the window to my deck and backyard. You may remember (or not) that we recently installed a new deck and patio and it has become my happy place.

So, with the sun shining last weekend we decided it was time to break open the deck and patio furniture from its plastic shell winter protection and pretend like it was warm enough to be outside.

Did you ever feel yourself take a deep breath? I didn’t notice it until afterwards but that was the sensation walking out onto the deck and sitting in my comfortable chair. And then, with everything going on around us, I had a moment of feeling really blessed.

We will get through this one moment at a time.

We took a "lunch break" outside for twenty minutes. It felt great. Although, I got a slight sunburn. :)

We have been taking evening walks around the neighborhood when it is not raining. It is nice to see people, from a distance, most who say "hello" and smile. The air seems a little cleaner and likely is with fewer cars and trucks on the road. You notice the sunsets do not have the pinks and burnt orange anymore, that may have looked pretty, but without those colors, is a sign that the smog has mostly lifted. Amazing how this virus has made a few good changes in people and the environment.

I'm chuckling -- as a great sage said: "I work from my dining room table, which is a growing monstrosity of technology, files, phones – wait, that’s what my NYC office looks like too." Substitute L.I. for NYC, and I could have said those exact words.... Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts (rain, later in the week). See you after this pandemic subsides....

Indeed, my dogs now look forward to their daily walks (something not done previously, we were always running somewhere so they simply went out in the back) and I have taken to raking---no clue what I am doing however being out in the sun and actually moving gives a few moments of peace. Enjoy your deck Nancy, self care is so very important---not something most of us often do.

Absolutely! Long walks, sunshine, fresh air, watching the daffodils and bluebells start to pop.... yes. Literally feel my shoulders unlock. Stay well and enjoy the nature breaks. Xo

These days of working at home have sometimes gone by in a stressful blur and even a walk in the evening is therapeutic for the mind and body. Stay safe everyone. Can't wait to actually see you all again.

Thanks for sharing Nancy! I have the same feelings when I venture out into the beautiful Riverside Park, with cherry blossoms, daffodils and pansies.
