POWER

Categories
Lifestyle

Power is the ability to direct or influence the behavior of others.

Over the course of my life I’ve observed and absorbed instances of others, big or small, wielding power over me. By small I mean ordinary every day people and by big I mean influential, rich or important people.

Possibly the most interesting and telling observations involve ordinary everyday people who, when they realized they had momentary power over me, morphed into an alien person that I did not recognize, as they wielded their transient power to extract revenge, settle scores or inflict punishment.

I suppose that’s one of the reasons my father taught me to be nice to people on the way up as you might meet them again on the way down.

The big people, as defined above, maybe because they’re acustomed to wielding power, are not so obviously vindictive or punishing.

It seems to me, in either case and under all circumstances, POWER need not and should not be abused!

You’ve got the power too. I call it Pillar Power!

I agree that we all have a degree of personal power. Power over others and power over ourselves to make choices and shape our lives. Power can be used for good, to support people and help, to change lives ....like you do with Gotham!
Carly Bentley

Great observation! I too, had the same lesson from my Dad. I treat the door man and the CEO with the same respect. Power is a funny thing. Its like money...you see people's true character. It's not the power or the money, it's a person's response to it that makes the difference.
Dana Charlton

Isn't that interesting!
In my 48 years working for you, and since, I never thought of anyone having power over you. In my experience and observation, it is you who have power, whether you choose to wield it or not, and when you did/do, it is with forethought and compassion. For that, among other reasons, I have great respect and admiration for you.
Paul Napolitano

With great power comes great responsibility. :) And with all sincerity, Victoria and Fred use their power wisely and for the good of others.

I can't imagine what circumstances gave rise to this blog. Exacting revenge, settling scores and inflicting punishment is an invitation to Karma to wield its power. I have learned that in the face of such abuse, turning and walking away is the most powerful tool we can use. Of course, thisbeg the question "what is wrong with some people???"

And then there’s red headed power...

Power is and can be used in many ways. It must be respected and carefully looked after. After all it is powerful. What comes around, goes around, including power.
Brad Scherer

Money and power bring out a person's true self. It is the person who treats people the best, who is the most powerful.

Power corrupts - Absolute power corrupts absolutely - Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority: still more when you superadd the tendency or the certainty of corruption by authority.

Profound. What about the power of 3?
Ellyn Finkelstein

Never would have guessed some used their negative power towards you....
Use your power wisely and to help others as previous comments mentioned....Don't Care and Move On....to the negative folks..
Paul Napolitano

I would give it to you, but power is not given. Power is taken. I think Machiavelli said that. ;)

Honestly, in the Trinity, power is of no consequence. Respect and open mindedness is paramount.

Power shifts can be very interesting to observe. I tell my clients all the time that every case turns. When they do, that's when the really interesting stuff begins.

I’ve been in a position for many years to wield supreme power over many people at once in a captive audience . As I used to tell those who would resist . “This is not a democracy ! “ That being said , to be in that position came with a huge responsibility . At times a life and death scenario . Not a situation for a fragile ego or a bias . But for the reality of what it is . I found that people come in two categories . Those that ACT and those that REACT . The proper use of power is necessary to quell both situations . There is no excuse for the abuse of power . The truly powerful are those who are silently powerful . Walk softly and carry a big stick . And to forever hold their peace .

NO ONE has POWER over you unless you give it to them.
