Ugh! What does late communicate?

Categories
Lifestyle

When it comes to being a time, it seems there are two distinctly different types of people. Those that are On-Time and those that are Late. English author Edward Verrall Lucas said "I have noticed that people who are late are much jollier than the people who have to wait for them." Grrr...

Depending what culture you come from or what culture you're LIVING in has a lot to do with the "acceptance" of being late. Irish-time always includes an --ish at the end of the established time, while in eastern cultures a set time has no --ish. In business, being on time is critical. It communicates respect of other people's time, talent and resource. It communicates deserved respect collectively for those participating.

However, what it also says you could be a Serial Multitasker that thrives under pressure. They are typically described as optimistic, bright, creative, and have the ability to think on their feet. They try and get...."just one more thing done". They simply love a thrill and chasing time is stimulating.

So to you my fellow, Gothomites, I am SO SORRY for being tardy, its not you, it's me. I'm a work in progress.....

Are you Late or On-Time??

My uncle always said better to be an hour early than a minute late

I tend to be early. But with NY traffic, there are times way beyond my stressed mind can handle that has me late. Not by choice. My wife, early for work, but late for just about everything else.

I’m the old fashioned hard ass . There is no excuse for being late . None . It conveys lack of respect . It conveys lack of organization and a sloppy ethic . I lose respect for those with a lack of punctuality. The world runs on a schedule . Either you meet it or you dont . Those who don’t can not be trusted . Simple hard facts .

Here is a different perspective - a brain perspective. Your left brain loves sequence and numbers. It's the only part pf you that perceives linear time. Your right brain perceives time as duration, that's when a minute feels like an eternity when you are waiting for something or when time flies when you are having fun.

When the brain hemispheres are in sync, it's easy to conform to linear time. But for many people, brain hemispheres are not in sync. Left brain people find it easy to be on time and they think it should be easy for others too. Right brain people have trouble evaluating how long something will take or they lose track of time so they tend to be late.

Simple brain-organizing activities can remedy that!
