What makes a star

Categories
Lifestyle

Most people think that a star is someone who has talent, fame, fortune etc. Yesterday I changed my opinion.

While paying a condolence call to Gotham’s cofounder Nancy. Schess, I saw her daughter Jackie. I hadn’t seen her since her high school days when Nancy used to bring her to Gotham events, and also when she ran the Oratorio event a few years ago.

Most everyone knows she goes to Yale, (speak to Nancy, the proud mama, for five minutes and you will certainly know). But did you know that she is earning her degree in public health by traveling all over the world working in third world countries helping people improve their life?

She has been to India, Africa and was on her way to Brazil yesterday.

So who is the real star, the college athlete who plays ball hoping to get a fat contract as a professional; or Jackie Schess who may or may not become world famous, but whose life’s ambition is to make the world a better place?

seizing an opportunity to make a difference remains rather noble in my book. Go Jackie Go!

No contest---and thank you for such wonderful thoughts, especially at such a difficult time for Nancy and her family.

Jackie is truly an awesome young woman! I can't wait to say "I know her" when we see her on TV in 10 years!

I agree completely. When I saw Jackee this weekend during my condolence call at the Schess home, I told her parents that she now is a "citizen of the world." Her current and future success were readily predictable even back when she was a kid. Way to go, Jackee (and Mom & Dad)!

There is great good being done all over, so glad this ray of hope is so close to my village.

Norman, I have to be honest, the last few weeks have been just a blur and I didn't even read this until Fred chastised me yesterday. I will blog next week about how important my Gotham family has been during this difficult time but this blog puts it over the top. Thank you for giving a proud mama an opportunity to smile at a difficult time. We are very proud of Jaclyn and can't wait to see where her passion leads her and the world.

And thank you for your warm support during this difficult time.
