Susan holds a BA in Economics from SUNY Oneonta, and received her Diamond Grading Diploma from The Gemological Institute Of America in New York City. Prior to her 30 year career with the family business HPS Jewelers Inc. , Susan worked 15 years in the fashion world, both in the department store buying capacity and in corporate sales with Liz Claiborne, one of the fashion industries Fortune 500 companies.

On a personal note Susan’s interest’s are travel, music, the arts, fishing, boating and horses. She speaks fluent Italian and is a board member of The Puglia Center in NYC which promotes business in the Puglia region in Italy and the USA.
As a lover of animals, Susan is involved in organizations dedicated to the preservation of Endangered Species and is a committed sponsor to The Mount Kenya Animal Sanctuary and The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and the foundation ‘s Elephant Orphans Project in both Kenya and Nairobi, Africa.
