The Puppy Connection

Do you have a dog? I don’t – but I am completely obsessed with my grand puppy, Hudson Schess.  I learned last week that we share a last name, well at least for day care, and I am even his emergency contact.

Bill and I were on our way back from a fun afternoon at the Tanger Outlets in Deer Park (well, fun for me – I’m not sure how much for Bill) when my phone rang.  It was a DC number and somewhere in the name it said “Pups”.

I was completely confused but answered in the call to be asked “is this Hudson Schess’s parent?”  And there it was, right there.  There was a question about what time my grand puppy was to be picked up and so apparently, they reached out to his emergency contact.  I had literally nothing to add to the conversation.  We were on Long Island and Hudson’s real parents were in DC.

But I did stop to think how good I felt being in that emergency zone for him.  And then I tracked down Hudson’s real parent.

Maybe we really should have our own furry animal.

As soon as I learned my son and his fiance had gotten a Husky-Lab mix puppy, I made a call to a fencing company and promptly fenced in our backyard, as an incentive for them to bring the pup from Jersey City to play (and stay) with us in the L.I. suburbs.... It's worked -- we're their go-to dog-sitters, and we'll have her with us for a nearly 3-week stretch later this month and early next month, while they are on two nearly back-to-back trips. It'll be the pup's third (and longest) stay with us, and continues the proverbial win-win for all of us.
