The Luxury of Cold Air

It is hot outside, really hot.  And I am a fan of cold, really cold.  Artificially cooled air that is, not the winter blustery kind.

I am a happy woman with air conditioning set in the low 60s at night.  Better for sleeping but I’m pretty sure my husband does not agree with me, which I glean from the pile of fuzzy sleeping socks he has collected over the years.

These days I am really appreciating the luxury and privilege of my central air.  As a heat wave travels the globe, I read an article recently that in England, air conditioning is uncommon.  It seems extraordinarily hot there right now too – but only a small percentage of the population has air conditioning in their homes.  According to a recent NY Times article, less than 5%.

I am feeling pretty grateful right now for the cold air my house can generate.  I wish I could share.

A/C to me is a basic necessity of life. Yeah, "first world" issue, but it fosters sleep. I'm squarely in Nancy's camp on this.
