Opening Day

A year ago (plus) I had planned to go. A year ago it got postponed and then when time to proceed came, no fans allowed. This year I aimed to go. I did, but not as planned, The recent tradition – until the canceled year – involved a small group, including a family member, not always the same, some clients and friends. Groups could not play this year. My foray involved a friend who collaborated on the annual opening day group and a few of his colleagues. A number of friends opt not to consider opening day. They consider the weather not cooperative. Funny thing, the sun shone brightly on our seats and I was able to shun my hoody for the proceedings. Best of all, before I left, the home team won, albeit controversially. On that crucial at bat, all I wanted was a win or a single out, as a double play would have prevented a “Polar Bear walk-off.” But yes the Mets won (that day at least).

A number of differences beyond the odd nature of the win. The ability, even with the need to pass a temperature check and show off proof of vaccination – I used my excelsior pass App, to essentially walk right in. No traffic really to reach Citifield; I did not try one of my “secret” parking spots. Exiting proved easy as well; no real parking (lot) jam. I certainly hope my late season foray there when my team plays Friday’s blogger’s team on the 20th commemoration of a tragic moment in history involves crowds. The plan that eve involves several hundred gathered to root for their fave team (one or the other); we’ve been sold out for the original 2020 date so I secured a few more for this year but not many remain. Maybe you are joining us; maybe you want to go.

Since baseball is the theme, enjoy this one.

My cousin did not go, the first time in many many years. She generally went with her son, since he was about five and now he's almost 25. They opted to watch at home, brought in Nathan's hot dogs and fries and large cans of beer. She said that, while she missed the stadium experience, she appreciated that the food, albeit the same as what she would get at the stadium, was half the price. :)

Great that you were able to go and Enjoy. And a Win is a Win!
Look forward to the Big Gotham outing on 9/11! Hope both teams are in the hunt!

Seeing the Yankees tomorrow night in Dunedin, FL. Minor league park with major league players. Now that should be intimate.

When my kids were little, opening day was a major event. It’s typically snowed but that didn’t matter. We went early - bought peanuts from the vendor in the parking lots - and didn’t leave until the last out no matter what. There are no photos - we don’t need them - the memories remain vivid.

Very cool that you got to attend Corey! Great post & I specially enjoyed your music link. Had not seen it before & it's just great, so thank you for that!
I've been going to opening day at home for years, we decided to watch from home rather than pay the very high ticket price. So yes, I barely worked that day as was glued to every play. That win was one for the books; and the Mets have lost many to bad calls so it was divine justice :) Agree with Fred re. both teams record to date. Like Odey I hope by 9/11 they've both gotten their act together so it's a "meaningful" game, not just for the date we'll commemorate.
