A year ago (plus) I had planned to go. A year ago it got postponed and then when time to proceed came, no fans allowed. This year I aimed to go. I did, but not as planned, The recent tradition – until the canceled year – involved a small group, including a family member, not always the same, some clients and friends. Groups could not play this year. My foray involved a friend who collaborated on the annual opening day group and a few of his colleagues. A number of friends opt not to consider opening day. They consider the weather not cooperative. Funny thing, the sun shone brightly on our seats and I was able to shun my hoody for the proceedings. Best of all, before I left, the home team won, albeit controversially. On that crucial at bat, all I wanted was a win or a single out, as a double play would have prevented a “Polar Bear walk-off.” But yes the Mets won (that day at least).

A number of differences beyond the odd nature of the win. The ability, even with the need to pass a temperature check and show off proof of vaccination – I used my excelsior pass App, to essentially walk right in. No traffic really to reach Citifield; I did not try one of my “secret” parking spots. Exiting proved easy as well; no real parking (lot) jam. I certainly hope my late season foray there when my team plays Friday’s blogger’s team on the 20^th commemoration of a tragic moment in history involves crowds. The plan that eve involves several hundred gathered to root for their fave team (one or the other); we’ve been sold out for the original 2020 date so I secured a few more for this year but not many remain.
