Chipped Crystal

Flo and I were cleaning her mother's house in anticipation of the closing. The house that Flo and her brothers grew up in. The house where her parents spent almost sixty years. There was a lifetime in that house.
I was packing the breakfront and I came to the crystal. There was a set of tall water glasses, wine glasses, and both large and small stemmed dessert glasses.
I first wrapped and packed the water glasses. I packed nine of them. An odd number. There were eleven large wine glasses but twelve small wine glasses. There were twelve of the large and small dessert glasses. A few of them were chipped and I put them aside.
There was a lifetime in those crystal glasses....and in a lifetime, things break and get chipped.

I was so honored to have met your mom last night. The only disappointment I had was that she didn't know my mother. I am sure they did know each other and I will even venture to say that your mother's elegance was only approached by my mother's and I bet they did know each other!

Sorry to miss your fantastic mom and the rest of the tribe last night.
Thanks for the reminder that something as simple as a glass holds valuable history.

I went though the same thing when I cleaned out my Mon's house. With her around it took over a year. She remembered every little thing from a chipped glass to an unopened pack of cocktail napkins left from a party in the 80s. It is amazing how it is the little things bring out the best memories.

Always interesting in how sets of a certain number evolve and survive. Like life?
