Mets Hats

New York has Mets fever and I’ve been part of it.

Last week, I bought a Mets hat to send to my daughter, Mea, who lives in Washington, DC. I was in Manhattan and decided to wear the cap for the day before sending it off to Mea. I was on the street for less than three minutes when, crossing Seventh Avenue at Thirty-Fourth Street, a young women called out to me.

“Will you give me your cap?”

I smiled and kept the cap.

Over the weekend, Flo and I were downtown at the Public Theater. To show support for the team, I wore a Mets cap - my 2000 World Series cap - which I had bought at Shea at game four of the Subway Series.

We were walking down Lafayette Street after the show past a restaurant when I heard “Go Mets”. I turned around to acknowledge the greeting and he said “Great hat! It’s an old one. 1998?”

I said “Close. 2000. World Series.”

Flo, who has been walking along side me, turned to me and remarked, “He noticed your hat. I didn't know men where so into it that he knew it was a vintage hat. I'm impressed.”

Well, thanks to an anonymous male Mets fan - we have finally made an impression.
