Second Home
When I first moved to Manhattan, 1975!, I couldn't imagine ever wanting to be anywhere else, but after 20 or so years, I began thinking about a home outside of the city. Eventually, my sweetheart and I purchased a lovely cabin in the woods in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. We rented a home in Middletown, NY to see if we really would use it or if it was just a theoretical want. Well, we did really use it and have enjoyed our Bucks cabin for about 8 years. Hard to beat kayaking, and hammock lazing in the summer, fires in the stone fireplace and snowy walks in the winter. Only about an hour and a half from NYC.
Times change, life happens and now we are wanting to go other places or stay in the city and have put our lovely cabin up for sale. (http://littlesurcabin.blogspot.com/)Its a strange feeling, I love it there, but its not where I want to be spending time today. I've got other places to go, things to do.
Its funny, our own Fred Klein has his Klein Cottage in paradise, I mean Key West, which is definitely heaven. If you haven't rented it, you have missed something truly wonderful. I can't imagine that he would ever give up that home. I certainly wouldn't.
It reminds me of that quote:
"Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great." -Steve Prefontaine
I'm wanting the great.
What are you giving up for something even better?

I know I've written it before, but really enjoy our home and local amenities including my pool club where I spend most summer weekends. Ditto my elementary school's gym where I pay ball one evening almost year round and most Sat. mornings Sept-May. If I ever write a non-policy book it might just feature a take on various vacations including "out east" at Grandma Evelyn's in Southold and different forays with the family and before.
