Fall Rituals

Categories
Lifestyle

Over this past raw and rainy weekend I engaged in annual Fall rituals brought on by the change in what had been a wonderful long stretch of dreamy weather.

I brought in the out door furniture, wore long pants and a jacket, swam my last laps, took a long drive on a leafy highway and rotated my closets.

And, most significantly, Joanne turned on the heat.

I broke out my faux fur throw blanket because there was no heat in my building. The cold snap occurred just as they were upgrading the heating system. Brrrr!

But ! 3 cords of oak put away in the woodshed portends a warm hearth. Got that done before my special event thank goodness. Warm California Indian Summer is upon us. The real turning point for me comes November 1 when we "Fall back" into early darkness. That's my early to bed excuse ! When the Yankees were on top I used to take the month of October off and relish in their success and travel to Gotham and sit behind home plate with the likes of "Jete's " latest lady friend and Rudy and hit Peter Luger's ......a time or two. NY Giant football the playoffs and the World Series all rolled into one. Maybe a game of touch\tackle in Archer's backyard....That was the meaning of Fall for me.........and now....hanging with the dogs and Diane and feeling so damn lucky and blessed !Our Thanksgiving table will be filled with kids and significant others and my wife will out do herself again. I for one will be Thankful to have my place at that table surrounded by the best support team anyone could pray for . A blip in the radar behind me now and clear skies ahead. Thank you Fred and Joanne .

Heat not yet on!
Changed the one screen (i hate the front door screen; read door is all weather.). Have been able to still work outside so furniture remains though there may be a partial store-away soon. I tend to wait into Nov as I enjoy sitting outside, even in in a hoodie.
