An Office Uniform

I saw a news report that I thought was interesting.

Some women in corporate America are starting a new trend. Instead of applying their creativity each morning to putting together their best and most diverse outfit, they are saving that creativity for application during the workday. Instead, their work wardrobe now consists of five identical, or nearly identical, outfits. Sort of like a school uniform.

The women interviewed said that they were energized, indeed liberated, by not having to decide each day what to wear. And, interestingly, each woman also said that their personal decision had started an office trend.

I’m not sure I could really completely buy into this approach, but I did go looking for a new black suit this weekend.

Female or male I recommend garb that fits the person (literally and figuratively) and enhances the image (but wears in comfort).

I could never do this. Putting together my daily outfits helps me express who I am as a person. If I just wore the same 5 things again and again, I'd be bored to tears. Sure it takes time to get ready but I like doing that. Maybe it's because I went to Catholic schoool and wore a uniform for 12 years of education.
Then there's also the consideration that visual impressions are such a huge part of the way people perceive us and judge us. I wouldn't want to be perceived as a drab person because of my drab wardrobe. Image isn't everything but it does count for a lot.

I've had both, a uniform and personal style. And each time I thought the grass was greener on the other side. Now I've happily evolved to my own personal style uniform.

Not a fan of uniforms, but certainly a fan of simplification.
So whatever you prefer, I'm liking Sonia's "personal style uniform" idea.

Lucas J. Meyer:

Years ago (the late 1980s) in Buenos Aires, all the women who were not officers of the bank (and there were very few of them) had to wear uniforms. When my late mother came to visit me and saw what was going on, she became incensed. If her high school and college Spanish hadn't been so rusty, she'd probably have led an insurrection! I had never seen her so angry... She was a very early adopter of equality in the workplace, and boy, did it show.
