Street crossing

I'm wondering if you've experienced this.

Driving down a street and someone starts to walk across, actually jaywalk, but that doesn't matter right now. They start to either walk really fast or slightly jog until they see the oncoming driver slow down then they walk REALLY slow the rest of the way across the street forcing the driver to slow down even more.

What's up with that? Why didn't they continue to cross the street with the same sense of urgrency?

They also make believe they are unaware of the car

I use to do that when I was younger, it was daring the car to hit me. Also at that time I wasn't a driver, so I had no idea what a driver goes through when a pedestrian does that. I'm happy to say I stopped doing it a looooong time ago.

Pedestrians and bikers get a lot of special paths when they navigate the city's streets. Often they prefer other paths, even going against traffic and jaywalking.

If done purposefully which may be the case, I see it as a sign of adolescence.

Have you driven in Garden City? It's interesting because they have cross walks clearly marked and everyone, drivers and pedestrians, all seem to adhere to the rules. Its very civilized.

Nobody pays any attention to traffic rules in our village. A sense of entitlement rules.
