It's Great to be Young and a Batman!

Please read my last week's blog Pregame Anxiety as prelude to this.

In a few words, I wrote I was worried about my softball Playoff performance and that of our Gotham Batmen team. Well, we passed every test and won every playoff game on the road to the Batmen's first League Championship and I got to scream, at the end of each game, at the top of my lungs "It's great to be young and a Batman"!

I pitch for the Batmen and the thing about competition is that it is horrible in pregame anxiety and anticipation, but wonderful when all is played out and you have won.  The release is so great that I feel lifted off the ground into a semi euphoric state.

Clearly, fun is more fun when you win.

A wonderful subtext to this story is that my 47 year old son David is on the team.  I managed him in Little League when he was 8 years old and we lost the Championship Game.  Believe it or not, that loss has haunted me all these years.  Well, this time we won and I got to embrace him and whisper "Finally, our first Championship together."

It doesn't get much better than that!

Great story! Thanks for sharing.
Also great illustration that not all anxiety is bad as it can certainly serve as a great motivator and spur on enhanced performance. On the other hand too much anxiety is a problem and can render people "stuck". That's when people can choose to meet with me.

Remind me never to have anoth group lunch on game day! I do agree with Bill though that the anxiety really is just the body and mind getting juiced up and ready to TCB.

If not for your playing and coaching/managing, very possible we might not have met. Until reading this I did not realize how fortunate I was managing Marisa and her teammates (I still have all the scorecards!). I hope you had every player and coach sign the champion card. We also had everyone sign the ball. I think one of the balls is is CA with my glove (recall the blog?).

Fantastic!
I'd still like to see a list of the players so we can appreciate EVERY member of the team.

Only 5: me, Scott Bloom, Laura Giordano, Jon Turco and David Klein.

Wow Commish ! Memorable loss and a memorable win. I can think of other memorable releases however in a different light. I imagine you and David will relive the championship over and over . More important is competing with your 47 year old son. It seems like yesterday that we were 47 . Too fast . So in the tradition of competition I can out bench all of my sons as well as my son in law. A bench mark that may seem silly for a 71 year old. The championship that our family celebrates is the art of just showing up . Showing up for the family occasions . The Airbnb houses we rent together quarterly . Never a no show . Birthdays. Holidays . BBQs . Never a no show. When you put 12 people into the mix it's amazing how lavish a 3 day weekend can be . The competition is in the art of the best meal or who's spiral is the tightest. Outside the box I can tell you unconditionally there is no better feeling in the world than the mutual love and respect and understanding between a father and son . A lifetime of " Showing up !" SEMPER FI Brother !
