Pregame Anxiety

Categories
Games

I am at the field over an hour early (so I won't be late) and I am alone with my nervous anxiety and demons. I have already stretched and I am waiting.

Am I at the right field?  Why is no one else here?

Will I be able to perform up to my expectations?  Will I be able to control my pitches and hit with authority?  Will I manage the game well?  Will we win or will I fail?

Probably care too much, but that's how I'm wired.

Be in the moment.
It's a beautiful day and you get to do what you love.
Nothing really matters.

I treasure each game as if it may be my last, Fred

Even if I didn't know that was you I'd bet it was you.

I am always early. And then, wait for the person I am meeting with the same anxiety.

Jesus !! This stuff is supposed to go away in your early seventies Bro ! I'm always painfully early. To the pain of others. Were you pacing while you were waiting ? Did I ever tell you the time I pre-flighted an entire 747 before an 11 and a half hour flight to Tel-Aviv only to wonder where the hell are the passengers 30 minutes prior? I was on the wrong jet. My first 747 Captain flight. I've taken 100 medicals over the last 50 years ...One every 6 months to keep my pilot's license current. My blood pressure still spikes at the thought of "you bet your job" each time you go in. For semi annual check rides in the simulator I deep breathe. We live in the mountains up a very scary mountain road. One time after my son Max didn't respond to a text I drove down the mountain at 3AM to make sure he wasn't in a wreck. I found his truck at his girlfriend's house and sheepishly drove back up the hill undetected except for Diane's heavy sighs when I got back in bed. Ever lose a kid at the beach ? A dog ? Ugh ! Living in the moment...One day at a time ? Easier said than done. Our wives have to put up with this shit ? Really ?

You always tell me to look out a window, maybe you need to look in a window.
