Donald

I have to say, I never liked my name. Of all the possible choices in 1954, why Donald? The most famous Donalds are a cartoon character and....another cartoon character.

I did a little research on this.  Apparently, the name, of Scottish and Gaelic origin, peaked in popularity in the 1920s hitting number 10 on the most popular list.  By the mid to late 50s it took a nose dive and by 2013 hit number 415. (Better than Fred.  That peaked in the 1880s and by the 1990s it sunk to 629 and then disappeared off the chart.)  Can't say I know any babies named Donald.

There is some good company though, Sutherland, Adams, Knotts, King, Shula and Amece.  And two serial murders, Donald Hume and Donald Neilson.

Maybe we will have a president with that name and it will come back in vogue and there will be all these little Donald babies born in 2016. We will be back up on the charts!

I think Don is a fine name, in the Italian culture it's the ultimate name.
You wear it well.
I love one of the great Donalds, Mr. Duck!

Curious, What name do you think suits you?

I had an Uncle Donald 100% Irish, red hair--blue eyes. Def. Gaelic origin. The name suited him perfectly.

Massive difference between noble and nice Don Bernstein and notorious and nefarious Donald Trump. Thus is is not just first name but entire name that makes something work or not.

I always hated my name-it was so unusual and hard sounding. I would constantly ask my parents why they gave me such an unusual name when my brother and sister got "normal" name, Jeffrey and Michelle. They were usually shocked at my feelings, insisting to me that they gave me a beautiful name. They were equally shocked when I chose to give my daughters unusual names and not use common ones.

Lucas Meyer

I think that I've already told the entire tribe that I didn't meet another Lucas until I was twenty-five years old. But now, it's become ubiquitous! Rather disconcerting, actually.

My first Godfather was named Donald, but he died when I was a little boy, and I barely remember him. His widow, my Aunt Bernice (RIP-- she was one of my favorite people) wound up marrying Don's brother, Clarke, who assumed the job of Godfather for me. One of my son's middle names is Clarke, and how pleased was Aunt Bernice with that selection! His second middle name is Emanuel, after a favorite great-uncle of mine...he was a bit of a rogue, but in a good way, and a lot of fun.
