Love and Mercy

Last Saturday, I saw a really good movie about Brian Wilson. His story is rather miraculous. Full of triumph, inspiration and humour. Most importantly, the power of one person to make a difference and I don't mean the extremely talented Mr. Wilson, though he is rather amazing. Great cast, acting, direction. And basically truth. No spoilers here. We can change the world if we want. The New York Times liked it too: This movie, a smart, compassionate, refreshingly unconventional biopic directed by Bill Pohlad, explores the mental world and the artistic method of a great artist. A. O. Scott I'm not a genius. I'm just a hard-working guy. -Brian Wilson

"Never underestimate the power of one single person to make a difference. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Who said that? Well, at least I remember the quote!

I saw it Saturday night too with a movie group and we had great discussions over dinner about the the film. We all enjoyed it. None of us mentioned the difference one person can make. Thank you for seeing it, and giving me another dimension.

I saw this on PBS I think, or another channel several times and did save the YOUTUBE. Glad you chose to post this. I suspect if you did not I'd have come back to it but The Beach Boys sans Carl Wilson and in their current formation fail to do Sail On Sailor which is such a great song and Brian got Mike Love to add it in back when the living originals toured together as the Beach Boys. AND, BTW, the Brian Wilson tour includes more original Beach Boys

I also saw and enjoyed the movie. And I agree he was a genius and a tortured soul who overcame the adversity with the help of a loving partner. The acting and directing was superb!

What's truly amazing... and something to celebrate... is that Brian Wilson is currently on tour! Kudos to this master of the modern musical form, who's talents in context of the Beach Boys and well beyond are responsible for making and enhancing some of my fondest memories. BTW, there is also an excellent review by Anthony Lane in the most recent (June 8th & 15th) issue of the New Yorker, honoring film maker, Bill Pohlad for exploring the depths of human emotion and mental challenges in Love & Mercy - unlike many in Hollywood would ever be willing to do.

Rats - forgot to log in before I posted the above. One more thought, if I may... being a native Californian, then moving east as a teenager, I can attest to the incredible power and influence that The Beach Boys - and Brian Wilson in particular - had on an entire generation, nationwide.

Saw the Beach Boys in concert very recently...rembered how I met Brian Wilson when I was at college (Syracuse) and we...
