Aches and Pains

Categories

I am a lifetime athlete: who played Soccer in college, finished 33 (26.2 mile marathons), ran 3000 miles per year for over a decade, ran at least 2 miles for 620 straight days, completed triathlons, competed in countless road races, survived three 24 Hour Relay races, swam 170 straight days, recently planked for 10 minutes and continue to pitch for the Gotham Batmen softball team.

Lifetime, I have run for over 55,000 miles (over twice around the World) and like to say "If I was a car I would trade me in!"

As a result, I suffer lots of aches and pains. For the aches I seek help. With pain I have a special relationship. I seek to endure it, as I know that pain is part and parcel of the deal. The question is, what you will do with it and how well you will do so?

I don't know about masochism, but I do know about mind over matter and tricking your body to endure.  Quitting is easy, enduring is something else. One learns a lot about one's self while enduring and not quitting.

Aches and pains are Nature's way of letting you know you are alive!

We ached and pained when we were doing all those things. Remember running through the pain? The aches and pains are an ongoing challenge. Keep moving and run through it.

A famous cyclist would say something to himself to get through the pain. "Shut up legs!" I wear that saying on my Road ID wristband.

I will recall your closing sentence when I slog through a game feeling the pain. If no pain, no exertion, no effort. Aches matter only when you feel them without exertion.

I want to be snarky and say give birth and we'll talk. In all seriousness I envy people like you....I've just started to embrace the idea of moving---doctors orders--
Thank you for the inspiration. :)
Still not sure how you do it. You have no pause button.

I'm with Cindy; three full term births, all large babies for a shorty like me, with NO drugs! A great deal is definitely mind over matter....but some Advil helps to keep going longer! On that note, and with your inspiration, have to get myself moving much more!

Pain makes you stronger. Tears make you braver. Heartbreak makes you wiser. And vodka makes you not remember any of it. Unknown author!

My grandmother used to tell me "If you're not in pain, you don't look good enough"; but she was talking about high heels. :)

Pain vs. Endorphins. For me it's an addiction. I am addicted to the way I feel after a good workout. That few hours or so that you feel like a million bucks. The hot shower soothing the overworked muscles and mind. The pain is part of the right of passage. My idol Arnold was quoted as saying " No pain , No gain !" I live now in constant pain and much to Diane's dismay I grunt and moan probably too loudly . In bed it is nye impossible to roll over at night without an audible groan . Diane wears earplugs. Downside is she misses all the other night noises . The barn animals and dogs on alert . That leaves me to groan and grunt and awkwardly roll out of bed and grab my Mossberg Pump sawed off shotgun while she snores away ! I work out and then work around the place and get as sore and tired as I can EVERY DAY. I'm addicted. Addicted to the pain. Addicted to the buzz. Addicted to two fingers of Bulleit . Addicted to my Cowboy Ribeye .Addicted to my Churchill cigar. We earned it bro !

pain is your reward for a life lived to the max :)

I know I'm alive without pain and I would definitely say the Mothers win the pain game.

When I go where I've never gone before whether physically, mentally, spiritually there is certainly the discomfort of new ground, but excitement, too, that I'm growing/learning/building.

It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.

I'm reading this as I just got off the treadmill and used arm weights most of the time. It's going to be a short comment as I can barely use my arms.
