If you've ever served on a board, a co-op board or an association board or a not-for-profit board you know it's not easy to get things done. Things just seem to go around in circles and never get anywhere. Well, there's one place where that's not true, one place where they hear you, listen to you and you can write your own ticket with other like-minded people. Yesterday I had a great fortune to meet with four other Gothamites and start planning the fifth annual Gotham Film Festival. This is just one of many of the great events in Gotham that have been born this way. We get the benefit of the beauty and the opportunity to watch these events grow like the Battle of the Bands or Gotham Film Festival, and the Book Club all started as little things and are now grown into magnificent events that just improve with each year. The idea for the Statue of Liberty came to Monsieur Laboulaye at a dinner party. Our Gotham lunches are like dinner parties, have interesting conversations, have great ideas, take responsibility and watch them grow. I don't where else this opportunity exists. Use it!

Things can get done; Jack Friedman and I would plan how to reconfigure some of the boards we served together on to upgrade them (two Gothamites now serve on one as part of such an effort). I really subscribe to the concept that every good idea finds it time. I suspect that rules in Gotham since good ideas receive encouragement and many nice events get developed and "curated."

I was just at this year's first Golf Outing Committee meeting last night and tomorrow will be having drinks with members of the Battle of the Bands Committee. As I told someone only yesterday, the secret to success and happiness in Gotham is to join and participate in a committee.
