In a new use of the largest social network in the world, Facebook is adding features focussed on offering advice and support to those who may be considering suicide.

 

Right now if a friend sees a post that indicates self harm or suicide and flags it, Faceoobk reviews it and recommends a help line (which isn't new).

 

Here's the new part...the person who posted the orginal message will receive a response from Facebook offering to help connect to a helpline or a friend. Facebook has said that the response would also provide a list with tips on how they can work through these feelings including options for them to call or message their distressed friend letting them know they care, or reaching out to another friend or a trained professional at a suicide hotline for support.

 

I applaud FB's effort.

 

I wonder how far they will take this...what if you said you feel fat today...
