No Joan?

This is my Oscar blog.

I really enjoyed the show this year but there was one glaring omission for me.  I always enjoy the part of the evening that shows respect for the stars who have passed in the prior year.  I am usually surprised at someone who I thought was still around or nostalgic about a particular celebrity about whom I have fond memories.

So what happened to Joan Rivers?  Did I miss her?  Did I turn away for the second when they flashed her face on the screen?

I don’t think so and I don’t get it.

In my opinion not much was right with the show
Cayce Crown

Yes, she was missing and a big mistake.
Show was kind of boring, though the Selma song Glory was a highlight and Gagas lip synch was surprisingly good.

The In Memoriam montage is often my favorite part of the show. This year I thought it was terrible. The purpose is to remember those who are gone, who we know because of what they did on the screen. That lends itself to emotional and memorable clips from their life's work. Instead we got weird animated still images of their faces. What a let down!

I said the same thing about not showing the clips during the feature. Have to say though...why would Joan Rivers be recognized at the Oscars? Unless I'm mistaken, I don't believe she was ever involved in the making of a movie? She was a great comedienne, but her only involvement with movies was a show later in life where she made fun of how people dressed.

btw I thought Doogie Hauser's best line of the night was the comments about the expensive gift bag and the "revolution."

It is interesting to note that Joan Rivers was left off the list, although she directed Billy Crystal in the movie Rabbit Test, while others who were less involved in Hollywood were included.

No Joan and I was disappointed by the omission as well. Otherwise, I enjoyed these Oscars much more than I have in years past.

I immediately noticed the omission of Joan Rivers. And, like the other commenter, I was disappointed with the portraits of those that were departed. I enjoy the clips.

Did not watch.. Shelly watched opening for Neil Patrick Harris and very end. Probably made sense to add some alliteration to Joan as she was a sideshow. More important, time for those self-righteous at the Academy nominate more popular movies and actors so more people bother to watch the show.

Likely Joan was not a member of AMPAS, thus excluded. Hated the montage pics, Robin Williams was practically unrecognizable! Thought the opening was pretty good, middle super boring, ending ok. Loved the Lady Gaga/Julie Andrews segment. Thought Ellen D did a better job last year; surprisingly NPH looked too rehearsed & I thought the magic trick was dopey.
