Character

College Basketball Hall of Fame coach John Wooden said "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while reputation is merely what others think of you."

Food for thought in this time of New Year's resolution.

We often hear one is reputed to be thus and such, but what lies at the core?  Character and that shines through over time.

Did someone say "Tried and True"?

Character is what You have to go to sleep with.
No body sleeps with your reputation.

Reputation reminds me of Wikepedia - filled with information people write whether inaccurate or not. Character is the true story which is told through people's actual words and deeds.

I like this, character is what YOU have to sleep with every night.
No one is perfect, at our core our character will always shine thru:)

Good one Fred! I'm scratching my head over this one. You know my friend I feel as though most people have some sort of "character." I can't really say though that I have met many with STRONG character however. These are the people that I would endeavor to become friends with. I'm not trying to be elite or anything. It's just that I don't have patience for the mundane at this point. Say what you will. I met Louis Zamperini a few years ago. We talked for a few hours. He invited me to his home in Torrance, California. A true character with enormous character. Angelina Jolie must have thought so too. I also flew Bob Dylan for a year. Another character with character. Character building experiences they say. By the way you don't have to be a character to have character. Am I making sense ? You are a man with strong character. You are my friend. Archer has strong character as a character as well. God knows I don't know where it came from. A life long quest to prove himself at the foot of his beautiful bride perhaps. He is my friend. A few decades ago I lost both engines on the left side of a 707 as I was beginning to lift off a runway in Rio on a hot stormy night. The number one engine blew up and exploded into the number two engine. I have white hair. Don't know about character. So it's a life long deal this character building. In reference to anonymous above...I disagree. Some woman have slept with me for my reputation. Not necessarily my character at the time. And yes Cynthia..I have to sleep with my character every night. Sometimes it's hard. For at this point in my life I am still trying to build the character that I always hoped I would be.

I often use the saying "Who you are speaks so loudly, I can't hear anything you say." This applies directly to many politicians.
