You can mentor me

I just gave a two hour workshop on Twitter. It's a tool that can be used in a variety of ways from brand awareness to public relations to news to lead generation. My suggestion is just to start to tweet. Have some fun. Find people who are tweeting interesting stuff and follow them. Tweet what interests you. If it's business, tweet business. My initial suggestion is to keep your tweets to 100 characters so people can retweet it with room for their comments. If there are enough people interested, I'd be happy to give the workshop to Gtoham.

Make tweets meaningful and useful to the reader, share materials you think are valuable. When they retweet and favorite your tweets you will see what people like and share. Be brave-just do it!

I've found some great referrals & colleagues across the globe through tweeting. Mostly I retweet (RT) or modify tweet (MT) comments and articles by others in fields that interest me. For example, many of my clients have asked me questions about raising funds for their startups, and by following sources of information about funding startups I've not only educated myself further but interacted with professionals who have been very helpful.

Another thing that's fun is "live-tweeting" conferences and speakers. It's a fun way to "take notes" in public and sometimes it gets you a follow from the host or other attendees.

Hashtags are important, but don't abuse them. You definitely want fewer words standing alone than hashtagged. Something like "#kale #fordinner #ladieswhokale #eatingright #delicious" will get you un-followed by me!!

I like Twitter; though I probably don't use it as much as I should. I try to be consistent with my Tweets and hashtag use. I also try to favor and/or retweet the tweets of friends and other tweets I find interesting. The more you participate, the more followers you get (I think). :)

You have to be able to interact, don't just give out random Tweets with nobody listening.

I use it intermittently. In the beginning, I more easily found info (think in terms of email alerts). Not I can scroll and not find someone's post -- think a client's that I want to re-tweet. That said most time I post to my website or a website I control, I west the link. Occasionally I might tweet something not related to work such as that large bird after the LI Legal meeting. On the other hand, I could have tweeted a pic of my talk to Gotham NY Women's group this afternoon but my focus is more content than just doings. I tend to be more active on twitter when my public policy work requires it.
