I think my parents called it an "accident" It was more like a train wreck after I started to grow up....they did not have another accident for 6 years....learned to drive I guess

Roughly mid-July, 1958. Which means that I was conceived on Martha's Vineyard. My late, great Godmother, Bernice Reed Baier Baier (she was married to two brothers-- not at the same time, of course!) was "An Islander", which is someone who was born on the Island and who had generations of roots there, and I asked her if being conceived there meant that I, too, was An Islander.

She smiled sweetly and said, "Well, dear, if it'd make you happy, I'll think of you as An Islander." She lived 92 years. My son is named for her second husband, Clarke. She was also a close friend (from Bryn Mawr College) of Katherine Hepburn.

To Anonymous who was conceived in a "brand new Caddy" in 1943, that's not possible. Production of civilian automobiles was halted in early 1942 after the US entered World War II. Also, the 1943 penny was actually made of zinc. -- Your pain in the butt Gotham historian.
